The Gypsum Board Problem Nobody Warns You About
Most internal partition walls in Dubai apartments are gypsum board rather than blockwork. Gypsum board has a paper facing — if wallpaper adhesive is applied directly to unsealed board, it bonds to that paper facing. When the wallpaper is later removed, the paper face of the board tears away with it. You are then looking at skim-coating the whole wall, or in serious cases replacing sections of board. Sealing gypsum board before wallpapering is not optional — it is what makes the wallpaper removable later without wrecking the wall underneath. We seal as standard and itemise it in the quotation. If a competing quote is notably cheaper, this is one of the first things worth asking about.
Where Wallpaper May Not Be the Right Choice

Getting this wrong is expensive in both directions — order short and you may not be able to match the batch; order long and you have paid for rolls you will never open. To calculate quantity correctly, the installer needs: wall height and total wall width, roll width and roll length, pattern repeat measurement, match type (free match, straight match or offset/drop match), number and size of openings, and a recommended wastage allowance for that material.
Pattern repeat is what catches most people out. A large offset repeat can waste a significant amount of material per drop, because each panel must start at the right point in the pattern rather than where the last one ended. Two rolls of identical size can cover very different areas depending on the repeat.
